When it comes to classic outdoor furniture and chairs, there is no more popular style of chair than an Adirondack chair and finding good quality plans is not very difficult.  There are a range of free plans available online, but they generally do not offer all the information you will need in order to build a quality product, so before you spend any money on lumber and tools, ensure that you have a set of quality plans.

Once you have found the plans that you are going to work with, you will want to purchase the right materials.  As Adirondack chairs are most frequently located outdoors, you will want to ensure that the wood that you use is pressure treated unless you have an alternative weather proofing method.  There are various natural methods to weather proof your wood should you be so inclined, but essentially to ensure the longevity of your woodworking project.

A quality set of plans will allow for you to just take the material list to your local lumber yard and have the pieces cut for you.  This eliminates any need to major tools, but in the event that you have a full workshop, you may find that cutting your own wood is much more cost effective.

In order to produce a quality product you want to ensure that the chair will be able to withstand the weight of a fully grown adult of the larger persuasion.  It is important to feel comfortable that anyone of your guest, no matter how heavy they may be will be able to sit comfortably in the chair.
